The University of Connecticut, kicks-off its first campus wide 'UConn - Innovation Quest Contest' starting February 1st 2012.

Ten iQ companies presented to a panel of Silicon Valley executives and investors. The companies ranged from medical devices, social networking soapbox speaker forums, mobile phone airport navigation apps, franchising iPhone repair services, novel beverage pallet cleansers, instant electronic advertising, one button computer virus repair, energy pouches, disaster relief water purifiers and web design artists for everyone. When a few companies get immediate interest and offers to invest it gets quite exciting.

Come to our workshop hosted by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Cal Poly Entrepreneurs, and Innovation Quest 2011 on Tuesday, March 29th at 6:30 pm in the Math and Science Building 38, Room 133. If you want advice, a great place to network or just some time to work on your IQ Application (due April 1st !), plan on coming to this workshop!

Nate Gallon, a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati law firm, clears the foggy mist and speaks to the IQueue founding companies about legal entities, LLCs, S and C corporations, tax liabilities and stock implications. He also describes intellectual property rights and laws governing patents, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets. Nate wound up the discussion with a round of Q&A from each company, each of which expressed deep appreciation for his succienct and clarifying answers.

Guest Speaker at IQuest-to-IQueue Workshop Session #3 Yvonne Hanlon of YCH Consulting, a 25 year veteran of the accounting and controller world, presented the essentials of startup financial analysis. Exercises were handed out to test the theories learned. A model spreadsheet was also provided as a reference model for the attendees new businesses.
